The Montblanc Writers Edition of the year 2019, Homage to Rudyard Kipling, initially made us a little perplexed. The matt surface with its grey-green hue is very unusual, as is the clip with the extremely prominent wolf's head. Overall, the design didn't convince us right away. However, Montblanc's implementation of the theme, if one ignores the well-known classic animated film of the Jungle Book, is overall very successful. Kipling's greatest success is the "Jungle Book". The story of the young Mowgli, who grows up in a wolf family on holiday in India, has the tiger Shir Khan as his enemy and the bear Baloo as his friend, is world-famous. But Kipling's literary model is much more complex. What the film adaptations present as a coherent story are, for Kipling, individual, independent narratives and poems that make up eight out of fifteen chapters in his two "Jungle Books" published in 1894 and 1895. The design of the Montblanc Writers Edition Homage to Rudyard Kipling Limited Edition piston fountain pen is based on these jungle books. The colour of the body, Montblanc calls it jungle green, is a reference to the jungle with its countless shades of green. The wolf's head on the clip represents the wolf family in whose care Mowgli grows up. The platinum-plated fittings and clip are a very stylish contrast to the matt surface. The fully rhodium-plated 18-K gold nib is decorated with an engraving of the globe as a reference to Rudyard Kipling's world travels and work.
