One box of spring cleaner contains eight pieces.

Here are the official instructions for use of the spring cleaner:

1. open the spring cleaner by pressing the outer edges.

2. insert your fountain pen with the gold nib on top until it bumps.

3. apply light pressure to the top and bottom of the nib to absorb the excess ink.

To clean the front part and the thread, press lightly on the thread and turn the spring cleaner.

The spring cleaner is then optimally stored in the front compartment of the spring cleaner box.

6. the spring cleaner should be replaced after a maximum of five uses.

Montblanc offers the Spring Cleaner or Nib Cleaner as a practical addition to the filling process of piston or converter fountain pens.

The nib cleaner absorbs excess ink from the nib and front of the fountain pen, preventing ink from contaminating the cap.
